Chris Pratt slammed after controversial pet rehoming tweet resurfaces, 13 years later

Actor Chris Pratt is again facing backlash from a controversial old tweet, which has resurfaced 13 years later.

In 2011, the star of American TV sitcom Parks and Recreation posted on Twitter/X about his ageing Persian cat, Mrs White, who was 15 at the time.

Mrs White was an actor in her own right, having starred as Snowbell in the 1999 live-action animated movie Stuart Little.

Pratt’s then-wife, Mom actress Anna Farris, adopted the cat after its acting career ended.

In the 2011 tweet, Pratt tried to give away the cat — which he said was “old” and accident prone — on a local community page.

“Anyone in the LA area want a cat?” Pratt said in the since-deleted 2011 tweet, as reported by Newsweek.

“Full disclosure, she’s old and prone to accidents. So sweet though.”

Pratt faced backlash at the time over his attempt to rehome the animal.

But a screenshot of the old tweet has now resurfaced, sparking a fresh wave of negativity.

“You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their pets,” one Reddit user said.

“Dude makes hundreds of thousands of dollars, bro can’t raise an elderly cat?,” a second wrote.

“Wow, if any of this is true, he’s a huge douche,” added another.

A fourth user sought more context around the situation, suggesting the criticism might be understandable if Pratt had “just abandoned the cat because he couldn’t be a**** to take care of it”.

“But if it had serious medical issues that he didn’t have the time to deal with, given his acting career, then giving it up would probably have been the kindest thing,” the commenter said.

Others said they did not see the big deal.

“Wait, why is the cat thing so awful? It’s better than what most people do, which is abandon them or try caring for them when they can’t,” one said.

“As much as it’s a s*** move, if you can no longer handle a pet, better to put them up for adoption than kill them or make them suffer.”

Following the initial backlash in 2011, Prat said he and Farris had found a home for the animal.

“Bottom line, and not that this is any of your f****** business weirdos, but my wife and I want to start a family and we ABSOLUTELY CANNOT have an animal that s**ts all over the house. Sorry,” he said on X at the time.

“If you are a parent you will understand.

“So what (if) I used Twitter to give away our pet?

“I have some people who follow me and I thought maybe somebody would be thrilled to have my old cat.

“And guess what … Somebody was!

“Her name is Meghan and as far as I could tell she is a perfectly reasonable, sweet and friendly cat lover.”
