Suspected Hells Angels associate charged after young men allegedly coward punched at Newcastle venue

A 47-year-old man, believed to be an associate of the outlaw motorcycle gang Hells Angels, has been charged after allegedly coward punching two young men in Newcastle on September 14.

He allegedly approached two men, aged 19 and 20, at licensed premises on Morgan St at Merewether about 11pm, and punched them both in the head before fleeing, NSW Police said.

“Both men received injuries to their mouths and face, however they both refused treatment,” police said.

He was arrested at a Merewether home about 6am on Wednesday, as police executed a search warrant there.

Personal items allegedly used in the offence, and electronic items, were seized, and the 47-year-old man was taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, October 31.
