Couple Arrested For Dine And Dash Spree; They Order Meals Worth Rs 1 Lakh And Leaves Child To Pay Bill

Reportedly, the two used to visit targeted restaurants with four more people. Later, they would start ordering their large meals which may cost nearly $ 400.

A UK couple was arrested for multiple ‘dine and dashes’ after several restaurant owners reported that they ordered large meals and left without paying. According to a report with the Metro, the couple from Sandfields in Port Talbot (Wales), ate free meals across five restaurants, totalling over £1,000 (approximately Rs 1,04,170.50 in Indian currency). The incident came to light after restaurant owners posted the couple’s CCTV footage on social media, asking the public to help them identify the couple.

The accused couple, Ann and McDonagh, orchestrated an elaborate scheme to enjoy free meals worth $1,200 by dining and dashing at various restaurants in Wales. Despite repeated complaints by restaurant owners, the duo managed to evade capture initially due to the police’s lack of urgency in addressing the situation.

The couple is presently in police custody and will head for a court hearing next month over crimes at restaurants in a 30-mile radius. Ann and McDonagh has also been charged with four counts of theft, according to a New York Post report.

Several videos of the ravenous diners have gone viral on social media. In most of the cases, the duo was accompanied by other people claimed as their family members. According to a few family restaurants, the two used to follow the same procedure with premeditation and continued to rob multiple restaurants.

The escape plan

According to the New York Post report, the two used to visit targeted restaurants with four more people. Later, they would start ordering their large meals which may cost nearly $ 400. Later, other people accompanying Ann and McDonagh, exit the restaurant. After ordering and eating their meals, they pretend to pay the bill with a card.

Upon facing declined card payments, the couple would hastily exit the restaurant under the guise of retrieving another payment card from their vehicle. Shockingly, they would leave their child behind, instructing him to wait while they absconded. Moments after the couple’s departure, the child would run towards the car.

“They use the same procedure with premeditation and continue to rob without any consequences,” Spanish and Italian restaurant La Casona said.
