Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan: Time for media to be unafraid

(NewsNation) — Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan say he’s launching a new media company catering to the progressive left.

Hasan joined NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo to discuss his outlet, named “Zeteo,” which caters to people who are “very unhappy with the media.” He says it’s time for the media to be unafraid.

“The reason I’m starting Zeteo is because I want to do journalism in a way that I believe it should be done, in a blunter way … in a more direct way, less B.S.,” Hasan said on “CUOMO.”

Zeteo comes from the ancient Greek word for seeking out and striving. According to the company’s website, their mission “seeks answers for the questions that really matter, while always striving for the truth.”

“I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of having bosses. One of the appeals of doing this is now I’m my own boss, which is a scary thought to me and many people who know me,” Hasan said.

Hasan is best known for his sharp debating and interview skills, which will not go wasted. His weekend prime-time show was canceled last year by MSNBC. Hasan declined an offer to stay on as a paid contributor.

Hasan told The Washington Post this week that he has raised $4 million for the venture and said he plans to host a streaming show and publish podcasts. Eventually, he hopes to charge a subscription fee.
