Free Gautrain rides for Bafana Bafana supporters

Gautrain will offer a free train service to supporters who will welcome Bafana Bafana at the OR Tambo International Airport.

The train service is free to people travelling to and from OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday, 14 February 2024.

FREE GAUTRAIN RIDES FOR BAFANA SUPPORTERS

The South African national men’s football team did exceptionally well in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) that was held at Ivory Coast.

Gautrain spokesperson Albi Modise said the first train will only depart each station to the airport at 9:30.

The free train service is available from all Gautrain stations for persons wearing Bafana Bafana gear or colours or carrying a South African flag/merchandise without luggage.

“As Gautrain, we join the nation in celebrating Bafana Bafana for flying the South African flag high at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

“We encourage South Africans to get on board the Gautrain in numbers; let’s give our national team a warm welcome in true South African style,” Gautrain Management Agency CEO Tshepo Kgobe said.

HERE ARE THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions apply:

  • The free train service is available from all Gautrain stations.
  • The first trains departing from the stations are as follows:
    Park Station – 5:29
    Rosebank – 5:33
    Sandton – 5:21
    Marlboro – 5:25
    Rhodesfield – 5:33
    Midrand – 5:43
    Centurion – 5:39
    Pretoria – 5:32
    Hatfield – 5:24

  • The free train service to the airport is only available until 7:00.
  • When returning from the airport, the free service is only between 6:30 and 9:30.
  • Free travel is limited to the train service and does not include Gautrain buses.
  • Standard Gautrain rules will apply, including no eating or drinking on the train.
