G Flip spills secret to ‘honeymoon’ relationship with Chrishell Stause after ‘crazy’ few months

It’s only just ticked over to March, but 2024 is already the year of G Flip.

The singer and drummer has dominated Australia’s Hottest 100, received a nod from Taylor Swift, continued a worldwide tour and returned home to celebrate Mardi Gras in a special promotion with car-share platform Uber.

That’s all while being in a supportive relationship with wife, Selling Sunset star, Chrishell Stause.

G Flip, who uses the pronoun they/them, broke Triple J’s Hottest 100 record this year, with seven songs included in the countdown, something beyond their “wildest dreams”.

They would write out their top 10 predictions and even went on to get a tattoo of the famous Triple J drum symbol.

“Just getting one song on the list — that was one of the biggest moments in my life,” the 30-year-old tells 7NEWS.com.au.

“Then being in seven times, and then coming in at number two — I’m still in shock.

“I still can’t believe that f****** happened. It’s weird, it’s wild.”

G Flip recalls when their album track “7 Days” gained the number 80 spot.

They texted their mother at the time: “Seven Days came in at number 80, I reckon I might get a few songs in because that’s definitely not the most popular”.

And G Flip was correct — they took out the number 65, 50, 26, 24, 22 and second spots.

Acknowledging the ongoing discussions about international artists being included in the Australian Hottest 100 countdown, G Flip says it is “hot on everyone’s lips”.

“I saw so many TikToks everywhere and so many articles,” they said.

G Flip recently caught the attention of “the biggest artist of this generation”, Taylor Swift, after releasing a cover of Swift’s pop hit Cruel Summer.

After attending The Eras Tour in Melbourne, G Flip says they admire the “many layers to everything Taylor does”.

“You get so into the Taylor world because there’s so much to see, there’s so much entertainment within,” they say.

“The smarts behind everything that Taylor does is so entertaining and so genius and she’s such a mastermind.”

G Flip is in the middle of their own Drummer Tour, across the US and UK, and is surprised by the growing fanbase overseas.

Having visited the UK in January, the 30-year-old says it was “definitely a shock” to witness the demand for their shows in London.

They had to add another two days — and plan a return to the UK in September.

“My booking agent and my team didn’t know that I had a big audience there. We thought, maybe I’d sell one night out,” they explain.

Instead, the venue sold out three times.

That led to the decision to return and tour the UK “properly” in September — and those concerts have also almost sold out already.

“I honestly just can’t believe this is my life,” the artist says.

“I feel so grateful every day, it never gets old for me.

“I cry by myself thinking, ‘Holy s***, this is what I do’.

“That is wild and I can’t believe people pay money to hang out with me and, like, rock up to my show.”

Just listening to G Flip’s tour dates and crazy schedule can make you tired, but the artist explains they are “very into all the busyness”.

“I don’t find myself getting too tired. I do have ADHD, so if I’m busy, I’m very into the busyness,” they explain.

“So I’m just going bouncing to the next (event) like a pinball machine.

“I have the energy and I want to be the best role model I can be for the non-binary and queer community.”

The singer went on to detail their relationship with Stause, who they married in 2023.

“I want to push myself to do everything and be everywhere and with the long distance, me and Chrishell just make it work,” G Flip says.

Stause is filming the next season of the Netflix real-estate show Selling Sunset.

“She’s so busy, I’m so busy. But we have each other and we love and admire each other so much and we just make it work.”

G Flip went on to share the secret to the relationship.

“We never go longer than two weeks without seeing each other,” they reveal.

“So hence a lot of the flying and also it does make our relationship exciting because we’re so excited to see each other.

“I feel like the honeymoon phases never end for us.”

Because of her filming schedule, Stause is unable to join her spouse in Australia, as G Flip celebrates Mardi Gras.

The annual event “means so much” to G Flip, who will be attending events all throughout the weekend.

“It’s just so great to be able to celebrate with the queer community … and celebrate who we are and the journey we’ve gone on to be our authentic selves,” they say.

“Some journeys were really hard for people to come out and be themselves, so I think it’s a great moment to celebrate how far everyone’s come.”

G Flip has teamed up with car-share platform Uber Pool to kick off the celebrations early — and Sydneysiders have the chance to share a ride with the singer to the festival on March 2.

“I treat most people like they are my mates anyway in life, so I’m really excited. I think it’s going to be funny,” they say of the upcoming rides.
