Gunman on the run after drive-by shooting at home in Merrylands, Western Sydney

A gunman is on the run after allegedly shooting at a home in Western Sydney while a family was inside.

Shots were fired from a light-coloured vehicle into a home at Myall St, Merrylands about 10pm Tuesday, police said.

No one was injured in the shooting.

About 10 minutes later, police were called to a car fire in Bennett St, Bass Hill, where they found a white Hyundai hatchback well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.

“It is believed that there was no one in the vehicle at the time of incident,” police said.

7NEWS understands a car was heard speeding away following the shooting.

Police are investigating whether the white car was used as a getaway vehicle by the alleged gunman.

Detectives and forensic police spent Tuesday night scouring the two crime scenes and going door-to-door in the area.

Investigations continue.
