‘I Don’t Care If He’s 4,000’

Whoopi Goldberg posed a question to Republicans and Democrats unhappy with the likely Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump rematch headed our way in November: “What are we supposed to do?”

On Wednesday’s The View, Jonathan Karl joined the table to discuss Super Tuesday results and he noted at one point that polling shows voters are not enthused about a Biden vs. Trump race.

Goldberg first dismissed concerns about Biden’s age (81). A New York Times/Siena College survey released this month showed more than 70% are concerned the president is too old to be commander in chief.

“We have the age thing, I don’t care if he’s 4,000 years old as long as he gets the job done. He gets the job done, I’m cool with that,” she said.

Karl argued Biden had the “opportunity” to be the “bridge” to a younger generation, as he had promised, by stepping down and not running in 2024.

“I think there’s some real frustration privately expressed, but no one’s going to challenge a sitting Democrat,” he said.

Goldberg questioned why more challengers have not jumped into the race when they prefer candidates other than Biden and Trump.

“Why is it so hard for people to say, this is great but we can make it better? And the same on the other side. I’m asking the question on both sides,” she said.

Karl called it a “lack of courage” and argued Republicans tried to challenge Trump, but they “never took the fight to Trump until it was too late.” He added, however, that there is an “appetite” for a wider field.

Goldberg then scolded Republicans and Democrats complaining about the Biden/Trump options, but not stepping up.

“This is my question to all you and all you Republicans sitting out there, where — if you’re going to kvetch about what’s going on and you’re not going to step up, what are we supposed to do?” she asked.
