Here are the key updates from February 02, Friday:
Thailand Masters Quarterfinals: Mithun, Treesa-Gayatri knocked out
Mithun Manjunath fought hard but went down in straight games Dutchman Mark Caljouw in the quarterfinal of the Thailand Masters. The two players were tied at 19-19 in the first game, and it could’ve gone either way, but Mithun couldn’t close it out. Caljouw was a bit more comfortable in the second game, as he won that 21-15, for a straight games victory.
Meanwhile, for Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, a sensational comeback win was so near, yet so far, as they lost in three games to Indonesia’s Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi. After convincingly losing the first game 12-21, Treesa and Gayatri imposed themselves in the second game to win that 21-17. In the third game, they fell behind early, but kept fighting, saved a couple of match point, then had a match point of their own, but couldn’t close it out as the Indonesians won that 23-21.
Also in action later today will be Ashmita Chaliha, who faces Indonesia’s Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo.
Patidar debuts as India look to bounce back against Bazball
India aren’t used to losing Tests at home. Now they find themselves 1-0 down against England in the five-match series. Their first attempt at bouncing back in the series begins today in Visakhapatnam, and in an enforced change, India have handed a debut to Rajat Patidar, who replaces KL Rahul.
