Laylat-ul-Qadr 2024: History, Significance and Dates of Night of Power in Ramadan

Laylat-ul-Qadr commemorates the moment when the Prophet Muhammad, revered as the founder of Islam, received the initial verses of the Quran.

Laylat-al-Qadr or Laylat-ul-Qadr or Shab-e-Qadr, is considered to be one of the most sacred nights in the month of Ramadan. According to the saying in Islam, Laylat-al-Qadr falls in the last ten nights of Ramadan. While there is no specific date for the Holy Day, Hadith (The sayings of Prophet Muhammad, essential for Muslim law and morals.) says that Muslims are supposed to search for it on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. 

According to the saying of BukhariProphet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Humankind will never know the exact date of Laylatul Qadr. However, it is most likely one of the odd nights in the last ten nights of Ramadan – Allah knows best.” Shab-e-Qadr is notably considered the Night of Decree, Value, Power, Destiny, or Measures.

While there is no specific date for Shab-e-Qadr, Muslims are advised to find it on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan, including 21st Ramadan, 23rd Ramadan, 25th Ramadan, 27th Ramadan, and 29th Ramadan.

History of Shab-e-Qadr

Shab-e-Qadr is one of the most important nights for believers of Isalm. It is being said, that during one of these sacred nights, angel Jibreel revealed the first verses of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. This sacred occasion continued over 23 years as the last messenger of Allah received further Quranic verses. Shab-e-Qadr, the blessed night, sees angels descending to earth to bless devout believers engaged in prayer and supplication.

Significance of Laylat al-Qadr

There is vast significance of Laylat al-Qadr. According to believers of Islam, each good deed performed by people is multiplied, and the rewards get 1000 times. People are advised to do charity during this month. Also, people recite the Quran and offer prayers five times a day adding Tahajjud’s prayers. 

What to Do on Laylat al-Qadr

Believers can do the following things on Laylat al-Qadr’s night. 

  • Recite Quran 
  • Perform 5 Times Prayer and Tahajjud Prayers 
  • Keep Fast 
  • Do Sadka (Charity)
  • Seek repentance
  • Seek forgiveness 
  • Make Dua
