Man, 35, accused of trafficking drugs between Toronto and Montreal

A 35-year-old man faces dozens of charges in a major gun and drug bust that stemmed from investigation into cocaine shipped between Toronto and Montreal.

Ontario Provincial Police say a total of 20 illegal firearms and 73 kilograms of illicit drugs were seized by the OPP-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG).

“By working in partnership with law enforcement in Quebec, the OPP-led PGNG has disrupted the movement of controlled substances inter-provincially,” Det.-Insp. Lee Fulford, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, said in a statement released Wednesday.

“We will continue to work together to hold individuals responsible for drug and firearm trafficking,” he added.

The OPP said the PGNG assisted the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal (SPVM) Organized Crime Division with the drug trafficking investigation that identified large quantities of cocaine allegedly being transported between Toronto and Montreal and the surrounding area.

And Toronto Police officers also “provided assistance that was essential to the successful outcome of this investigation,” the OPP said.

PGNG executed two search warrants on a vehicle and a residence on Ridelle Ave. – near Allen Rd. and Eglinton Ave. W. – in Toronto on March 27.

The searches allegedly led to the seizure approximately 60 kilograms of cocaine,13 kilograms of methamphetamine, 19 handguns, one assault rifle, 3,000 rounds of ammunition, 53 magazines, four drum magazines, 66 Glock auto switches (used to convert guns to automatic firearms), three bullet proof vests and one ballistic helmet.

Bradley Nelson, of Whitby, was arrested in Toronto and charged with 68 gun and drug-related charges.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Toronto on May 2.
