Man gets 30-year jail for purposely spreading HIV

A man sentenced to 30 years in prison for intentionally spreading HIV through sex.

NEW YORK, May 8: In a disturbing case in the United States, a 34-year-old man, Alexander Louie, has been sentenced to at least 30 years in prison for intentionally attempting to spread HIV through sexual encounters. Louie confessed to engaging in sexual activities with 30 to 50 men and boys, including a 16-year-old, while concealing his HIV-positive status to infect them with the disease.

The investigation into Louie’s actions commenced last August after he initiated an online conversation with an individual he believed to be a 15-year-old boy, who turned out to be an undercover detective. Their online exchanges led to a planned in-person meeting in Boise, where Louie resided. Authorities revealed that Louie shared explicit photos and expressed intentions to record their encounter.

Louie was apprehended in September 2023 on charges of child enticement upon arriving at the agreed meeting place. Subsequent investigations exposed that Louie was not adhering to his HIV medication regimen. Prosecutors disclosed that Louie purposely engaged in sexual activities with multiple individuals, deceiving them about his HIV status with the intent to transmit the virus.

Louie pleaded guilty to charges including enticement of a child through the internet, sexual battery of a minor, and transferring body fluids. He has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, with a minimum of 16 years to be served before parole eligibility.

Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their diligence in bringing Louie to justice, emphasizing the impact of his actions on the community. Bennetts highlighted the collaborative efforts that ensured accountability for Louie’s predatory behavior and safeguarded the community from his dangerous conduct.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of deliberate HIV transmission and the importance of transparency and accountability in intimate relationships to prevent harm and protect individuals from such malicious acts.
