Mandurah Kmart fire: Police continue to search for arsonist responsible for blaze that caused $100,000 damage

The Mandurah Forum Kmart store remains closed two weeks after a fire caused extensive damage as police continue to search for the arsonist responsible for the suspicious blaze.

A representative this week said the department store could not yet confirm a reopening date but said the store’s employees were working at nearby Kmarts in the meantime.

Emergency services were called to the fire in the Kmart storeroom on March 22 about 1am.

It was quickly extinguished, but not before causing about $100,000 in damage.

WA Police later released CCTV footage of a person entering the storeroom after forcing entry through a back door, setting fire to items on a set of shelves and then leaving on foot.

The footage shows the fire spreading quickly before huge flames erupt and smoke fills the room.

Police said the fire badly damaged the storeroom but the store’s roof sprinkler system controlled the blaze.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police offering rewards of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
