“An exclusion zone is in place and the community is urged to avoid the area,” NSW Police said.

University newspaper Honi Soit reported that Fisher Library, the New Law Building and the Abercrombie Business School have been evacuated.

Students were reportedly told while exiting the library that it was a preplanned drill, though it has since been confirmed as a bomb threat.

Residents of campus accommodations were asked about 4pm to go to their rooms and “not leave the building or use any common areas for 10 minutes”, Honi Soit reported.

NSW Police would not comment on whether the threat is related in any way to students currently protesting on campus.

The University of Sydney has redirected media inquiries to NSW Police.
