Pharmacist who poisoned lover, 71, with stolen drugs so she could go on £6k spending spree with his bank cards is jailed

A PHARMACIST who poisoned her lover to go on a £6,000 spending spree with his bank cards has been jailed.

Lily Cartier, 53, stole the pills from work so she could slip them into 71-year-old John Sharrad’s food and drink.

The part-time model was caught when John’s loved ones became suspicious about his sudden decline.

The dad-of-two had begun slurring his words and was unable to walk properly, with a toxicology test revealing the horrific truth.

Cartier has now been jailed for seven years after being convicted of two counts of poisoning and two counts of fraud, Mail Online reports.

Kingston Crown Court heard how Cartier met her older lover in Jimmy Choo in Paris in 2014 and moved into his home in Weybridge, Surrey, shortly after.

Three years later, John began experiencing trouble walking and struggled to open and close his jaw.

The retired Woolworths manager underwent tests and was prescribed medication for Parkinson’s disease.

John sadly collapsed twice and was rushed to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey.

While he was recovering, Cartier stole his bank cards and went on a £6,000 shopping spree.

After buying a £2,500 ring, the heartless fraudster convinced John to sign over his corporate pension and Porsche Boxster to her.

Doctors meanwhile carried out tests after John’s heart rate slowed to 37 beats per minute and the horrific truth was discovered.

They found he had life-threatening amounts of two different drugs – including one to treat psychosis – in his system.

John, who had complained of noticing a “funny taste” to the cereal his partner made him, died of bladder cancer in 2020 but this was not thought to be connected to the poisoning.

When Cartier was arrested, police found a bottle of pills in her handbag and more medication in her bedside cabinet.

Officers also discovered the same drugs had vanished from the Weybridge where Cartier worked.

In a victim impact statement, John’s sister Sally Llompart said her brother was robbed of the final years of his life.

She added: “This appalling, callous woman put such little value on my brother’s life.

“It is hard to understand how a human could treat another person in this way, especially someone who loved and cared for them.”
