Premier Roger Cook defends excluding babies, toddlers from $103m student cash splash

Premier Roger Cook has defended not extending cash payments for school-aged children to younger kids because it would have been too difficult to administer, adding the parents of infants and toddlers don’t have the “extra costs associated with sending their kids to school”.

With inflation on a downward track, Mr Cook also insisted the $103 million cash splash did not risk delaying the Reserve Bank’s long-awaited move to trimming the official interest rate.
