Reagan Library celebrates Presidents’ Day with Abe, Ike, Teddy and more – Daily News

Visitors to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum had a chance to celebrate Presidents’ Day by mingling with a few familiar Commanders in Chief on Monday, Feb. 19.

President and First Lady re-enactors met guests at the 31st annual President’s Day Celebration at the famous library in Simi Valley. Performers portrayed such presidents as Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower, Ulysses S. Grant and Theodore Roosevelt — and such first ladies as Mary Todd Lincoln.

The event featured live music with the Doo-Wah Riders Country Band and the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West, as well as face painting and other activities for children.

The event was moved indoors because of the rain.

In the afternoon, guests were invited to the groundbreaking ceremony of the museum’s new Charters of Freedom Monument near the Gold Star Memorial.

Fred D. Thomas, Mayor of Simi Valley, said during the event the monument would include replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

“The Reagan Library is a gathering place for leaders of all ages who convene here to reflect upon Ronald Reagan’s contributions to our historical landscape and is a valuable lesson of leadership that he bestowed during his time as our president.”
