Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) told Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo on Monday there are “a lot of leaks” within the House GOP conference.
On Monday’s Mornings with Maria, Bartiromo asked Jackson about Ukraine aid legislation in the House, which is expected when lawmakers return from recess. In February, the Senate passed a foreign aid package that includes $60 billion for Ukraine, which is continuing to fight off a Russian invasion. Ukraine aid has faced far more pushback from House Republicans.
Jackson told Bartiromo that part of what has set back the House GOP conference is “leaks” from members.
“We haven’t seen the actual language of the bill yet,” he said. “I mean, I think it’s unfortunate that Speaker [Mike] Johnson is kind of in an un-winnable position right now. He tries to come up with a strategy to push this stuff through but we have a lot of leaks within our conference, so if you declare what we’re going to do publicly within our conference, it leaks out and it undermines the strategy and we start over. That’s happened numerous times.”
Jackson is one of the House Republicans opposed to current plans for Ukraine aid, calling for it to be tied to border reforms.
He argued the Senate plan “buys a stalemate for another six to 12 months” and throws billions into a “bottomless pit.”
“We have to have an endgame here,” he said.
