The Best Memes & Tweets From The 2024 Grammys

This year, the Grammy Awards were all about girl power. The run of show for the 66th annual ceremony featured performances from superstars like SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa — and going into the night, SZA led the pack with nine nominations, followed by Victoria Monét and Phoebe Bridgers with seven nods each.

But that wasn’t all: Only one male nominee, Jon Batiste, was up for Record of the Year and Album of the Year. Aside from him, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Rodrigo, boygenius, and SZA were also nominated in both categories; and Eilish and Monét rounded out the Record of the Year contenders, while Lana Del Rey and Janelle Monáe completed the Album nominees.

Keeping up with recent tradition, Trevor Noah hosted the 2024 ceremony.

It was a night of surprises — including an album reveal and history-making win for Swift, and an emotional return for Celine Dion — and fans took to social media to express themselves in live time. Ahead, the most viral reactions from the show.

Legendary singer Tracy Chapman returned to the stage for the first time in almost four years to perform “Fast Car” with Luke Combs, whose country-fied cover of her 1988 hit was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance.

Fans at home were just as thrilled as audience members, including Taylor Swift, who was on her feet for the entire number.

People on X (formerly Twitter) hailed Chapman’s return, with one fan writing, “Seeing Tracy Chapman sing on live tv in 2024 feels so surreal, like I’m mezmorized in this moment.” One user called it “one of the coolest Grammy moments I’ve seen in a long time,” while another praised Combs for “helping give [Chapman] her flowers like she DESERVES.”

Naturally, folks also loved Swift’s reaction to the performance, with one fan writing, “Taylor Swift is so relatable, I too would be incapable of sitting down quietly while TRACY CHAPMAN IS SINGING FAST CAR.” Another person said the moment was “everything good in this world.”

Nobody has more fun at the Grammys than Cyrus. After she took home her first-ever Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance, she sang the song that won her the award. A bit in, she called out the audience for not dancing, which made Swift, Oprah Winfrey, and Kylie Minogue all get to their feet.

Cyrus also incorporated a Tina Turner tribute at the end, before dropping her mic stand in grand fashion. Needless to say, fans lapped up the entire number.

“Miley went to the school of Tina Turner & Cher and graduated top of her class!” one fan wrote, with another saying, “THAT’s a performer baby.”

To top it all off, Cyrus ended the night by winning Record of the Year, and bragged about how good she looked while thanking her loved ones. “I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might’ve forgotten underwear. Bye!” she ended as she strolled away.

Jay-Z Calls Everyone Out

During the show, Jay-Z was honored with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, and he used his acceptance speech to call everyone out, including the Grammys itself. He noted how his wife, Beyoncé, was the most-awarded Grammy winner of all time, but had yet to win Album of the Year.

“She has more Grammys than anyone and never won Album of the Year,” he said. “That doesn’t work.”

People on X generally loved the rapper’s speech, with one user saying that “JAY-Z was READING THE GIRLS.” Another fan wrote that he was “SAYING JUSTICE FOR LEMONADE,” referring to how Beyoncé lost Album of the Year for her 2016 record to Adele’s 25. “Oh Jay-Z came to talk his sh*t today,” one user wrote.

Taylor Swift Makes History

At the end of the show, Swift made history after winning Album of the Year for her 2022 album Midnights, which made her the first artist to win the honor four times.

She first won for her sophomore album Fearless in 2010, before taking the award home for 1989 in 2016 and Folklore in 2021.

It didn’t take long for Swifties on X to celebrate the win. They also loved how Swift dragged on stage Lana Del Rey, who was also nominated in the category. Swift praised her collaborator. “She’s a legacy artist, a legend in her prime now,” she said. “I’m so lucky to know you and to be your friend.”
