In his signature style, Donald Trump posted a New Year’s “salutation” to the “radical left misfits and thugs” he claimed were trying to destroy the country by illegally allowing in millions of migrants coming through Mexico.
He also repeated his accusation that the Left was signing those migrants up to vote in the 2024 presidential election.
On his Truth Social account, Trump wrote:
As the New Year fast approaches, I would like to wish an early New Year’s salutation to Crooked Joe Biden and his group of Radical Left Misfits & Thugs on their never ending attempt to DESTROY OUR NATION through Lawfare, Invasion, and Rigging Elections. They are now scrambling to sign up as many of those millions of people they are illegally allowing into sour [sic] Country, in order that they will be ready to VOTE IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2024.
Signing migrants up to vote has become a talking point for Trump as he seizes on the Right’s complaints over the situation at the southern border.
Just two days ago Trump posted:
“It’s becoming more and more obvious to me why the “Crazed” Democrats are allowing millions and millions of totally unvetted migrants into our once great Country. IT’S SO THEY CAN VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.”
As a fact-check to Trump’s claims, Forbes reporter Sara Dorn wrote:
Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed “millions and millions of totally unvetted migrants” are being admitted into the country and allowed to vote, he wrote on Truth Social on Saturday—the latest incendiary anti-immigrant statement from the former president, whose previous remarks about immigrants have been compared to Adolf Hitler’s statements about Jews.
She continued, “Non-citizens are not permitted to vote in federal elections, and there is no evidence of any type of widespread voter fraud in the two presidential elections Trump has run in.”
Forbes included the factoid that “Trump spread the unfounded claim that he lost the popular vote in the 2016 presidential election because 3 million to 5 million illegal immigrants voted for Hillary Clinton, who won the popular vote by 2.9 million votes.”
