Wendy the chicken surprises customers and explores at Wangara Bunnings

Customers at a Perth Bunnings had a warm welcome today from a chirpy chicken who explored the warehouse aisles.

Wendy the chicken — known as Wendy Chicken on Facebook — was the star of the store, gaining lots of attention from the staff, customers and children as she travelled around in a mini trolley at Wangara Bunnings.

A post with photos to Facebook described her Bunnings adventure.

“I had the most attention I’ve ever had today! So I’m quite tired after all the excitement. I went to Bunnings. I was most popular — the staff were very, very nice to me,” the post began.

“I also met lots of other humans & small humans who were very gentle. Everyone took photos of me. I very much like riding in my own little Bunnings trolley — it’s a great way to travel!

“I got super excited when Mummy wheeled me into the Nursery section cos of all the greens!! The nice lady in the nursery gave me some yummy silverbeet & lettuce to eat. Today was a great day!!”

According to a visitor, Wendy is an ex-battery hen who was born without a tailbone and hops around on one leg.

She now spends her days going on outings and exploring new places with her owners.

Ex-battery hens are hens from egg factories, where battery cages are used. Battery cages are multiple rows of cages, connected together like an artillery battery — and are used worldwide as housing for laying hens.
