Whoopi Goldberg Invests In BLKFAM, New Black-Owned Streaming Service

BLKFAM, a new free, ad-supported streaming service created by digital marketing Larry Adams, launches today with Whoopi Goldberg as an equity partner.

The streamer says it fills a major gap in the market as “the first and only Black-owned, Black-focused family streaming platform.” It starts with a content library of 20+ syndicated series, 1,000+ hours of new animation titles – including dozens of new animated characters of color and diverse gender experiences — and hundreds of hours of original music driven content.

Ten new original live action and animated series are in development to premiere on the platform throughout the year, the streamer said, along with investigative journalism and news, fitness and wellness series, Black history, sitcoms and reality shows, — “all through the lens of the Black experience.”

“Black culture and content is so often stereotyped, siloed or written off – so I wanted to create a platform where my kids and I can be entertained without having to face those same daily biases,” said Adams.

Goldberg has signed on as equity partner alongside Tom Leonardis, president of her entertainment venture Whoop, Inc., and will be steering the creative development of various programming exclusive to the platform.

“I am honored to partner with BLKFAM to assist in the creative direction of curated diverse content – for Black culture to be brought to broader audiences,” the EGOT winner said.

The streamer has partnered with The Africa Channel as well as Playwatch Kids and ATTN: with shown Gabby Galactic, Marvelous Light, Black History Beats, Kembe and others.

BLKFAM is now available on iOS, Android, Amazon Prime Video Channels, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, YouTube TV, Samsung Smart TVs, Vizio, and LG.
